Chief Medicine Resident - SC
OverviewThe chief medical residents (CMR) at Legacy Salmon Creek are important leaders in the residency program.
As leaders, they serve as role models for medical students and housestaff with respect to education, advising, and mentoring.
Clinical activity is an important part of this role but does not overshadow the other essential roles.
Administrative and leadership responsibilities include scheduling conferences, committee work related to housestaff and education issues.
These responsibilities are tremendous opportunities to be involved in advocating for the housestaff and for improving patient care.
Teaching & Conferences:
The CMR plays an important role as a teacher for the medical student and residents on inpatient rotations.
There are many outstanding Legacy faculty that will help the CMRs hone their teaching skills.
The CMR will lead or help schedule the following conferences.

The CMRs will have the opportunity to develop scholarly projects with the mentorship of faculty.
The CMRs will have the opportunity to attend the Education Scholars Program at OHSU and tuition for this program will be paid by Legacy GME.
Leadership/Administrative opportunities:
The CMR is uniquely positioned to participate in improving the educational experience of the housestaff and medical students, and to improve the quality of the clinical service.
The CMR participates in several committees that provide oversight to housestaff programs, including the Program Evaluation Committee, the Clinical Competency Committee, the Resident Program Education Committee, Full Program Evaluation Committee, and Graduate Medical Education Committee.
There are also hospital committees where the chief residents serve including Quality Council, Code Stroke & Code Blue Committee, and CAUTI/CLABSI Committee The CMR may participate in other hospital committees to pursue their own interests.
The CMR will be a primary point of contact in assisting residents who struggle with any of the ACGME competencies or with other issues The CMRs work with coordinators to create schedules for resident clinical responsibilities CMRs participate in interviewing residency program candidates as well as in rank sessions.
Clinical:
The CMR will have a clinical commitment of at least 0.
25 FTE, but no more than 0.
35 FTE.
The clinical sites will do their best to create a clinical experience where the CMR will be able to participate in resident and student education with a target 50% of shifts involving teaching students and/or residents.
CMRs may choose to moonlight as an opportunity to augment their clinical experience provided such moonlighting does not interfere with their responsibilities as CMR.
The CMR must be certain to inform their clinical supervisors (hospital or clinic site director) of days when they are unavailable for clinical work (eg - retreats, ESP).
If a CMR takes on additional clinical shifts, the CMR must inform the GME Manager of any schedule changes to the CMR on call.
Verified approval by the co-CMR must be provided.
